Mitchell’s laws:
•Those, who do not understand the differences between Monetary Sovereignty and monetary non-sovereignty, do not understand economics.
•Any monetarily NON-sovereign government — be it city, county, state or nation — that runs an ongoing trade deficit, eventually will run out of money.
•The more federal budgets are cut and taxes increased, the weaker an economy becomes..

Liberals think the purpose of government is to protect the poor and powerless from the rich and powerful. Conservatives think the purpose of government is to protect the rich and powerful from the poor and powerless.

•The single most important problem in economics is the Gap between rich and the rest..
•Austerity is the government’s method for widening
the Gap between rich and poor.
•Until the 99% understand the need for federal deficits, the upper 1% will rule.
•Everything in economics devolves to motive, and the motive is the Gap between the rich and the rest..

The following needs no embellishment. It is perfect, as is.

« December 18, 2015; Trump Lead Grows Nationally; 41% of His Voters Want to Bomb Country From Aladdin

Donald Trump holding his largest lead yet in the wake of Tuesday night’s debate.

He’s at 34% to 18% for Ted Cruz, 13% for Marco Rubio, 7% for Jeb Bush, 6% for Ben Carson, 5% for Chris Christie, 4% each for Carly Fiorina and Mike Huckabee.

Trump is the biggest gainer since our last national poll in mid-November, going from 26% to 34%. He’s also become more broadly popular with GOP voters, with his favorability rating going from 51/37 up to 58/34.

54% (of Republicans) support Trump’s proposed Muslim ban, to only 25% who oppose it.

To put some of these findings about real modern day issues and Trump voters in context, 41% of his voters think Japanese internment was a good thing, to 37% who don’t.

And 41% of his supporters would favor bombing Agrabah to only 9% who are opposed to doing that.

Overall 30% of Republican primary voters say they support bombing it to 13% who are opposed.

Agrabah does not exist. It is the fictional nation in a Disney movie titled, “Aladdin.”

But 41% of Trump supporters and 30% of Republicans want to bomb it.

Juan Cole, 41 Percent of Donald Trump Supporters Want to Bomb Aladdin and Jasmine

Only 19% of Democrats were knee-jerk bombers, and 36% were firmly opposed to reducing the cartoon land to smouldering cellulose. That 19% of Democrats wanted to bomb is pretty bad, obviously.

But it is interesting that the most belligerent constituencies besides Trump were supporters of Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz and Chris Christie.

I suppose Bush acolytes figure they know what a Bush would get up to. And after all, all those Neoconservatives who engineered the Iraq War are in his brain trust.

Christie, being a bully, likely attracts other bullies.

It is hard to know if the Cruz devotees are militarily aggressive or just addled like their leader.

All those Republicans, who were brainwashed and incited by the bombastic speeches of their leaders, now want to bomb “Agrabah” and kill its people, simply because it has an Arabian-sounding name.

They know nothing about Agrabah, but by God, they know they want to murder the men, women and children who live there.

What does that tell you about today’s Republican candidates? What does that tell you about today’s “religious” right-wing, gun-nut voters?

Perfect.

Ten Steps to Prosperity:
1. Eliminate FICA (Click here)
2. Federally funded Medicare — parts A, B & D plus long term nursing care — for everyone (Click here)
3. Provide an Economic Bonus to every man, woman and child in America, and/or every state a per capita Economic Bonus. (Click here) Or institute a reverse income tax.
4. Free education (including post-grad) for everyone. Click here
5. Salary for attending school (Click here)
6. Eliminate corporate taxes (Click here)
7. Increase the standard income tax deduction annually Click here
8. Tax the very rich (.1%) more, with higher, progressive tax rates on all forms of income. (Click here)
9. Federal ownership of all banks (Click here and here)

10. Increase federal spending on the myriad initiatives that benefit America’s 99% (Click here)

The Ten Steps will add dollars to the economy, stimulate the economy, and narrow the income/wealth/power Gap between the rich and the rest.
——————————————————————————————————————————————

10 Steps to Economic Misery: (Click here:)
1. Maintain or increase the FICA tax..
2. Spread the myth Social Security, Medicare and the U.S. government are insolvent.
3. Cut federal employment in the military, post office, other federal agencies.
4. Broaden the income tax base so more lower income people will pay.
5. Cut financial assistance to the states.
6. Spread the myth federal taxes pay for federal spending.
7. Allow banks to trade for their own accounts; save them when their investments go sour.
8. Never prosecute any banker for criminal activity.
9. Nominate arch conservatives to the Supreme Court.
10. Reduce the federal deficit and debt

No nation can tax itself into prosperity, nor grow without money growth. Monetary Sovereignty: Cutting federal deficits to grow the economy is like applying leeches to cure anemia.
1. A growing economy requires a growing supply of dollars (GDP=Federal Spending + Non-federal Spending + Net Exports)
2. All deficit spending grows the supply of dollars
3. The limit to federal deficit spending is an inflation that cannot be cured with interest rate control.
4. The limit to non-federal deficit spending is the ability to borrow.

THE RECESSION CLOCK

Recessions come only after the blue line drops below zero.

Monetary Sovereignty

Vertical gray bars mark recessions.

As the federal deficit growth lines drop, we approach recession, which will be cured only when the growth lines rise. Increasing federal deficit growth (aka “stimulus”) is necessary for long-term economic growth.

Excerpts from an article you absolutely should read:

The Creeping Villainy of American Politics
    By Chris Hedges

The threefold rise in hate crimes against Muslims since the Paris and San Bernardino attacks and the acceptance of hate speech as a legitimate form of political discourse signal the morbidity of our civil society.

The daily amplification of this hate speech by a commercial media whose sole concern is ratings and advertising dollars rather than serving as a bulwark to protect society presages a descent into the protofascist nightmare of racism, indiscriminate violence against the marginalized, and a blind celebration of American chauvinism, militarism and bigotry.

The mounting attacks on Muslims, which will become a contagion when there is another catastrophic terrorist attack, are only the beginning.

There is a long list to be targeted, including undocumented workers, African-Americans, homosexuals, liberals, feminists, intellectuals and artists. We are entering a new dark age, an age of idiocy and blood.

These hatreds, understood as politically toxic by the liberal wing of the capitalist class, have been embraced by an enraged and disenfranchised white underclass. Our failure to curb this hate speech will haunt us.

Step by step the hate talk moves from insults, stereotyping and untruths to incendiary calls for vigilantes to attack women wearing the hijab, men wearing kufis, mosques, Islamic centers and schools, and Muslim-owned businesses.

The ideological war began in earnest immediately after the attacks of 9/11. Hatemongers and racists, before then primarily relegated to the margins of society, laid the foundations for the collapse of civil discourse.

Extremist groups, embodied by the Christian right and Islamic State have distorted Christianity and Islam to sanctify their mutual hatreds and bloodlusts.

The indiscriminate violence unleashed by the United States against Muslim communities in the Middle East has at the same time radicalized whole populations, which are bombed and otherwise terrorized daily.

Pakistani children in areas under drone attacks hate sunny days because of the drones, which don’t function in cloudy weather. The only days they feel comfortable playing in northern Pakistan is on cloudy days because the drones can’t see them. This terror has consequences.

The lust for brutality is not limited to groups such as Islamic State. It is more than matched by numerous voices in the West. Author Sam Harris calls, in his best-selling book “The End of Faith,” for the West to consider carrying out a nuclear first strike on the Muslim world.

Said the Islamic scholar Hamza Yusuf, “There are a lot of uneducated people out there, and this tripe appears nutritious to them. “I did not see anyone up in arms about Harris’ statement. Yet they are constantly going on about the brutality of Muslims. Meanwhile, we [Americans] talk daily about carpet-bombing the Middle East.

If there is another major terrorist event on American soil, Yusuf said, the response will not be like the one that followed 9/11. “It won’t be flowers at the mosque. The response will be retaliatory. There will be a desire for revenge.

The worst nightmare for ISIS, like the demagogues in the West, is that we reject their call to create a wedge between religious communities.”

    Sound familiar, Trump lovers?

Obama sees Republican Party as international ‘outlier’

Obama’s point about the U.S. Republican Party being an international outlier is both true and under-appreciated. A paper was published in the fall comparing conservative parties from the Western world on the climate crisis, and it found American Republicans as the only major party that proposes doing nothing to deal with the problem.

The contemporary Republican Party is the only major party in the advanced world that remains staunchly opposed to universal health care.

The contemporary Republican Party is the only major party in the advanced world that believes citizens of its country should have largely unfettered access to firearms.

Other than Israeli parties, the contemporary Republican Party was the only major party in the advanced world that opposed – and actively tried to sabotage – the international nuclear agreement with Iran.

    The list of shame.

    1. “American Republicans as the only major party that proposes doing nothing to deal with the problem.” ~ Steve Benen, MSNBC

That’s not quite true. Republicans know that the seabed under the Arctic Circle contains an estimated 15% of the world’s undiscovered oil (90 billion barrels) plus 30% of the world’s undiscovered natural gas (48.3 trillion cubic meters).

Now that global warming is causing the ice to recede, Republicans are cheerleading the U.S. military in the chase for resources. Russia, Canada, the USA, Norway, and Denmark are racing to build military bases in the Arctic Circle to guard their piece of the resource pie.

Russia is building a huge new naval base on Kotelny Island. Chinese personnel are active in Greenland. The USA is planning to build a new base on Alaska’s northern coast. The USA already has Thule Base, 750 miles north of the Arctic Circle, which is the world’s northernmost deep water port. For years that port was only open three months a year. Now, because of global warming, it is open four months, and the time span keeps widening.

There are reports (unconfirmed) that Russia plans to build a new base on the disputed Kurile islands near Japan, plus another base on Wrangel Island 300 miles from Alaska, plus another base at Cape Schmidt, which is less than 300 miles from Alaska. (These claims are not confirmed; but the Kotelny Island base is real.)

It’s all about grabbing arctic resources as global warming makes them more available.

These competing nations are also making new territorial claims. In August 2007, the Russians planted a flag on the seabed at the North Pole, 2.7 miles under the ice. Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Peter MacKay, said, “They’re fooling themselves if they think that dropping a flag on the ocean floor is going to change anything.”

The Russians responded, “When pioneers reach a point hitherto unexplored by anybody, it is customary to leave flags there. Such was the case on the Moon.”

In 2009, and again in 2013, the Russians drove vehicles across the ice to the North Pole, and planted a fag there.

Canada, Russia, and Denmark all claim that they own the North Pole.

Competition is heating up with the global climate, and Republicans know it.

Nonetheless they claim that global warming is a “socialist plot.”

  2. Bomb Agrabah? Why not? They attacked the World Trade Center, didn’t they? And they have WMDs, plus underground bases and terrorist “sleeper cells” worldwide. For all we know, they are worse than terrorists. They could be fiscally irresponsible liberals.

Boy, the corporate media outlets are sure happy. Hysteria boosts ratings, which boosts advertising revenue. Some 62,462 presidential ads have been broadcast already this year. The 2016 hopefuls and their related political groups (such as super PACs) plan to spend $133 million on broadcast TV by the start of March 2016. Some sources are predicting that the 2016 presidential election may end up costing as much as $5 billion, with most of that money going to TV for political advertising. At some TV stations, a third of advertising revenue comes from political ads.

That’s why people like Rupert Murdoch oppose campaign finance reform. They like their cash cow. Meanwhile hysteria is making them richer than ever. The more outlandish, the better. (Thank you Trump!)

And it isn’t just the media moguls. Average Americans want entertainment, not news or information. The corporate media outlets give it to them. This increases TV ratings, with increases TV profits.

    Bomb Agrabah? Why not? (Ka-ching!)

Rodger asks, “What does that tell you about today’s Republican candidates? What does that tell you about today’s ‘religious’ right-wing, gun-nut voters?”

It tells me that they’re psychopaths. Last night I went to see a huge display of Christmas lights at a religious temple. I saw U.S. flags hanging everywhere. My husband asked what I thought about the temple’s religious beliefs. I wanted to say they were mass-murdering maniacs (which they are). However I just took a sip of hot chocolate and said, “No comment.”

  3. Speaking of right-wing perfection, I wish to comment on climate change and right-wing hypocrisy…

The Koch brothers are each worth more than $40 billion. Their profits largely depend on industries that produce carbon emissions. Therefore the Koch brothers oppose any government intervention to address climate change. And to make sure that nothing is done about climate change, they plan to spend $889 million in the 2016 elections through their group Americans for Prosperity. (That’s nearly a billion dollars in “free speech.”)

Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, and Ted Cruz say that climate change is a hoax.

Rand Paul and Marco Rubio say that climate change is real, but it is not man-made.

    WHY I MENTION THIS

In Brazil, which is larger than the continental USA, a prolonged drought has caused residents to store emergency water supplies in swimming pools, plastic jugs and other containers. This has created a huge stock of mosquito-breeding areas. As the mosquitos have exploded in number, so have outbreaks of the Zika virus, which causes babies to be born with shrunken skulls, because their brains didn’t grow properly. This condition (called microcephaly) can also be caused by genetic abnormalities, exposure to toxins, and maternal alcohol abuse. In 2014, however, Brazil had only 147 cases of microcephaly. Yesterday (22 Dec 2015) Brazil’s Health Ministry disclosed that the number of suspected Zika-related microcephaly cases had climbed to 2,782 this year. The number of confirmed deaths caused by the Zika virus is also climbing. The Brazilian government predicts that 100,000 Brazilians will become infected in 2016. Microcephaly cases with suspected links to the Zika virus have been reported in 19 of Brazil’s 26 states, plus the federal district of Brasília, the nation’s capital. (Incidentally a central government city is a capital. A “capitol” with an ‘o’ is a specific building in the capital city.)

The Zika virus first surfaced in Africa in the late 1940s, and has hopscotched to Southeast Asia, the Western Pacific, and now Latin America. It is related to dengue, yellow fever, West Nile virus, and Japanese encephalitis. It is carried by mosquitos, but it can also be sexually transmitted between humans. There is no vaccine or preventive drug for Zika virus. The Aedes species mosquitoes that spread Zika virus are found throughout the world. With the introduction of the Zika virus into South America, it has progressed northward. Several cases have been reported in Florida.

    THE POINT

In denying climate change, Republicans are contributing to an explosion in hideous birth defects among newborns.

To be fair, Chris Christie, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, and Jeb Bush acknowledge that climate change is real and is man-made. (Evidently they didn’t get the Koch brothers’ memo, attached to a bribe.)

When Trump said he wanted to ban Muslims from entering the USA, the Department of Homeland Insecurity started doing just that.

The DHS is increasingly banning British Muslims from entering the USA, and is not explaining why, according to critics in the UK who are calling on Prime Minister David Cameron to address the problem.

One British family wanted to bring their eleven kids to visit Disneyland, and they were granted travel authorization. But after Trump began attacking Muslims, the DHS refused to let the family board the plane at London’s Gatwick Airport, and refused to explain why. The children had been counting down the days to the trip for months, and were devastated not to be able to visit their cousins as planned. The airline refused to refund the $13,340 cost of their flights. The kids were also forced to return everything they had bought at the airport’s duty-free shops before being escorted from the airport.

Two days later, another British traveller, Ajmal Masroor, a lecturer based in London, was turned away from boarding a flight to New York.

    The phenomenon is increasing.

Creationists get leadership roles in education
    12/23/15 By Steve Benen

It was just two months ago when Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) appointed a new commissioner to the state’s Department of Education, despite (or perhaps because of) his support for teaching creationism in Maine’s public schools.

As it turns out, this isn’t an isolated incident. The Arizona Republic reported yesterday that another creationist “will now help shape the future of education” in the Grand Canyon State.

Senate President Andy Biggs named Sen. Sylvia Allen, R-Snowflake, chairwoman of the Senate Education Committee.

Allen recommended consideration of a bill “requiring every American to attend a church of their choice on Sunday to see if we can get back to having a moral rebirth.”

She also believes, in all sincerity, that the planet is only 6,000 years old, which means she’s only off by about 4.5 billion years.

And yet, Allen is now the chair of the legislature’s Education Committee.

    What could possibly go wrong?

Republicans favor “freedom” and “getting big government off our backs” — except when it comes to religion. Then it’s “Worship my way, or else.”

The Obama regime has deported more refugees than any previous regime. The more refugees that Obama deports, the more Republicans accuse Obama of being “soft on border security.”

Today, Christmas Eve, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced a special gift to refugees who have fled drought, violence, and poverty in Latin America.

In January the DHS will begin rounding them up and deporting them. Adults and children will be arrested wherever they are found, and immediately deported.

DHS director Jeh Johnson pushed for the deportation dragnet, despite the ever-worsening violence in countries like El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

Right-wingers say it’s a joke. Their only hope is Trump.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/us-plans-raids-to-deport-families-who-surged-across-border/2015/12/23/034fc954-a9bd-11e5-8058-480b572b4aae_story.html

NOTE 1: With the government overwhelmed at first, many of the refugee families were simply released and told to appear at later immigration court dates to determine if they would be granted asylum. Some never showed up, or they did not realize that their asylum petitions were rejected by immigration judges and they were ordered deported. They will be the first ones grabbed and deported. How do judges and bureaucrats determine who gets released, who goes to prison, and who gets deported? Their decision is random and arbitrary. The life of a refugee is a crap shoot.

NOTE 2: Refugees who are still imprisoned will not be deported, since most of the “detention centers” are run by private corporations who get federal dollars, and who pay bribes and kickbacks to politicians (e.g. the GEO group, formerly Wackenhut). Many refugee families (including children) have been imprisoned for a year or more.

NOTE 3: Some Border Patrol personnel speak Spanish, but most detention center personnel do not. Legal papers given to the refugees (e.g. rejection of the asylum requests) are all in English, with no copies in Spanish. I have seen them.

NOTE 4: The Washington Post story has 3,396 reader comments. I glanced at 40 of them. They were unanimously anti-refugee.

NOTE 5: The more you stomp those below, the more you will be stomped by those above.
