Thanks for nothing Sen. Manchin and the GOP

Self-proclaimed “moderate,” but in reality, coal whore, Sen. Joe (Global warming? What global warming?) Manchin demanded cuts to the Democrat’s “Build Back Better” program.

Here is just one of the proposals that had to be cut in order to receive Manchin’s blessing.

From AXIOS AM, By Mike Allen, Oct 29, 2021

Manchin’s vote is necessary because 100% of Republicans have vowed to vote against ANY program proposed by Democrats. (That’s called “Making America Great Again” aka “Trump Before Country,” and “Trump Before World.”)

With paid family leave OUT of the Build Back Better framework released by the White House yesterday, the U.S. remains one of seven countries without paid leave for new moms, Bloomberg reports.

The others: Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea and Tonga, per UCLA’s World Policy Analysis Center.

Congratulations Manchin and Trump Republicans. You have helped America to join the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, and Tonga.

What an honor. It demonstrates how great we have become. A true world leader.

……………………………………………………………………..

THE SOLE PURPOSE OF GOVERNMENT IS TO IMPROVE AND PROTECT THE LIVES OF THE PEOPLE.

The most important problems in economics involve:

  1. Monetary Sovereignty describes money creation and destruction.
  2. Gap Psychology describes the common desire to distance oneself from those “below” in any socio-economic ranking, and to come nearer those “above.” The socio-economic distance is referred to as “The Gap.”

Wide Gaps negatively affect poverty, health and longevity, education, housing, law and crime, war, leadership, ownership, bigotry, supply and demand, taxation, GDP, international relations, scientific advancement, the environment, human motivation and well-being, and virtually every other issue in economics. Implementation of Monetary Sovereignty and The Ten Steps To Prosperity can grow the economy and narrow the Gaps:

Ten Steps To Prosperity:

  1. Eliminate FICA
  2. Federally funded Medicare — parts A, B & D, plus long-term care — for everyone
  3. Social Security for all
  4. Free education (including post-grad) for everyone
  5. Salary for attending school
  6. Eliminate federal taxes on business
  7. Increase the standard income tax deduction, annually.
  8. Tax the very rich (the “.1%”) more, with higher progressive tax rates on all forms of income.
  9. Federal ownership of all banks
  10. Increase federal spending on the myriad initiatives that benefit America’s 99.9%

The Ten Steps will grow the economy and narrow the income/wealth/power Gap between the rich and the rest.

  1. The United States is the only OECD member country that offers no paid maternity or paternity leave at all. It also ranks 3rd from the bottom ahead of only Mexico and Turkey in terms of public spending on family benefits (as % of GDP), of which a third of that “spending” is in the form of tax breaks. In terms of direct cash subsidies to children and families, the U.S. ranks last among OECD nations. Is this what it means to be “pro-life” and “pro-family”?

The U.S., however, does rank #1 in number of billionaires per capita and has the largest share of the worlds millionaires (39% share of millionaires vs 4.2% of total population). So even putting monetary sovereignty aside for argument’s sake, the GOP would have us believe that despite having the largest concentration of private wealth in the world, we somehow can’t afford to support mothers and children in this country at anywhere near the OECD average. Sounds “pro-rich” not “pro-life”. Pretty shameful.

It would seem the only thing “pro-life” about GOP policies is to ensure we have a steady supply of impoverished and/or indebted mothers and children who can be exploited in low wage/benefit jobs by the GOP’s wealthy overlord patrons. Welcome to neo-feudalism.

  2. It seems like the more time goes on, the tighter the economic strait-jacket gets. We-the-people are slowly becoming I-the-Selfish, I-the-Afraid, I-to-hell-with-you. Making it all worse is the rich-poor Gap. But the holiday season is around the corner with a chance, once again, to prove We is greater than I. May that Spirit infect the GOP and their fellow comrades masquerading as Democ-rats
    Happy Holidays.

    1. We may be hearing about him if Joe continues to be a thorn in the side of Democrat’s. The media may decide it’s time for a discussion of genetic problems.

          1. Manchin family patrimony. It all started with Uncle Jimmy: https://www.nytimes.com/1989/07/10/business/treasurer-of-west-virginia-retires-over-fund-s-losses.html

“During his term, Mr. Manchin showed little interest in financial matters, preferring instead to delegate to others his responsibility as a member of a three-person Investment Board that oversees the $1.2 billion investment fund. Mr. Manchin enjoyed judging beauty contests, serving as a parade marshal and distributing medals to West Virginians who reached the age of 100.”

“In testimony in January before the West Virginia House Judiciary Committee, Mr. Manchin showed little familiarity with the operations of his office. For instance, he could not tell the committee whether his office prepared a daily profit-and-loss statement. He also said he did not know that the use of parentheses around figures in accounting indicated a loss instead of a profit.”

  3. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1990-07-08-mn-319-story.html Manchin family skeletons are about halfway… Jeez what a trip down memory lane about the way large swathes of the country used to be.

Like that telephone tax to pay for the Spanish-American War that was only repealed a decade and a half ago https://www.cnet.com/news/telecom-tax-imposed-in-1898-finally-ends/ a great many of these sleazy characters had quite a ‘long tail’ with all their cobbled together ass backward law and rule baggage that live on after them still with precious few yet realizing the fundamental changes that went down on Sunday August 15, 1971
