The secret is out:

NSA’s methods usual for Taliban

Unlike many Americans, the Taliban were not surprised by the news (of NSA surveillance).

“We knew about their past efforts to trace our system,” Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told the Washington Post.

“We have used our technical sources to foil their efforts and have been able to stop them from succeeding so far.”

The Taliban, knowing their conversations were tapped, would often attempt to mislead snooping Americans, discussing ambushes that never materialized.

So, the Taliban knew all about NSA’s monitoring of our phone calls, and in fact, had devised methods for using that monitoring against us.

And Congress knew all about NSA’s monitoring of our phone calls, in fact, they authorized it.

And the President knew all about NSA’s monitoring of our phone calls, in fact, he was the 2nd President to authorize it.

So, from whom was this vital “secret” being hidden? From us, of course, the schlemiels from whom all government secrets are kept.

Despite John Boehner and Dick Cheney calling Snowden a traitor, and demanding his severe punishment — and despite today’s Chicago Tribune publishing a cartoon showing Snowden stabbing the Statue of Liberty in the back — and despite the huffing and puffing of America’s super-patriots, exactly what vital secret did Snowden reveal to our enemies?

None, that I’ve heard of. Have you heard of any?

Why is the government angry? Because they did’t want you to know they were spying on you.

Let’s face it, the enemy is not stupid. With the exception of current tactical and planned strategic operations or undercover agents or weapons development, there are very few, if any, secrets our enemies don’t already know. Does anyone still accept the blatent bullsh*t that the Taliban and whomever else we consider our enemies, did not know we were monitoring their calls?

Did the Russians not know it? The Chinese? The North Koreans? The Iranians? The Iraqis?

The vast majority of U.S. government secrets are meant to be secret only from the American people, not from so-called “enemies. The enemies already know the secrets or don’t care.

Many secret-classified documents are decades old, and have no security value. The purpose: To hide from the public, government screw-ups.

So the next time you read or hear a self-proclaimed super-patriot frothing in horror, at all the important secrets someone has divulged, and how that person is a traitor, ask this question: Exactly which vital secret did he reveal?

As for Snowden, I don’t care whether his girlfriend is a beautiful pole dancer, who is or is not delighted at getting her name on Facebook. I don’t care whether Snowden is or is not doing this for money or publicity, and not out of patriotism. I don’t even care whether he is hiding in Singapore or Bora Bora.

And I don’t buy the government’s dubious claims that one (or was it 12 or was it 200?) — the numbers kept changing — terrorists were caught as a result of tracking phones.

And for sure I don’t buy General Hayden’s claim (during his confirmation hearing) that the NSA surveillance program would have prevented 9/11. An even bigger monitoring program called Echelon, had been in place for many years. And the hijackers already were being tracked by the US government (just as the Boston bombers were), and you saw how well that tracking went).

It is not surprising that the bought-and-paid-for media already have forgotten about Echelon, a clear violation of the Constitution, while raving hysterically about Snowden revealing some mythical secrets. The media print what the government wants printed.

Until someone answers the question, “Exactly which vital secret did he reveal,” I’ll consider Snowden a hero, for showing us the depths to which our government has sunk, and for taking the heat.

So far as I can see, the greatest danger to American freedom is not little Edward Snowden, who eventually will rot in jail, but the U.S. government.

(If only Snowden had been as big a campaign contributor as the crooked bankers, who really did damage America, he wouldn’t need to worry about jail.)

Because wealthy criminal bankers bribe politicians with big campaign contributions and promises of lucrative employment later, neither the Obama administration nor the Republican party has shown any desire to prosecute the gangsters who cost the American public trillions.

(It’s more fun to punish poor immigrants who only want to build a better life. After all, how much do poor immigrants contribute?)

So, because the crooks have proven to be immune from prosecution, there is no reason for them to stop cheating the public:

Financial Times
Bid to relaunch synthetic CDO unravels
By Tracy Alloway, Tom Braithwaite and Dan McCrum in New York

An attempt by two big Wall Street banks to revive notorious credit boom-era securities blamed for exacerbating the global financial crisis has failed after investors balked at buying some of the derivatives on offer.

JPMorgan Chase and Morgan Stanley have scrapped a plan to sell “synthetic collateralised debt obligations” – sliced and diced pools of credit derivatives – after failing to find investors willing to take on all of the deal’s different pieces.

Banks sold $61bn worth of synthetic CDOs in 2006, at the height of the credit bubble.

President Obama has done nothing to stop the crime, but the public has wised up, so presumably the criminal bankers will find a new scam to foist on the public.

Presumably, Obama, having been well bribed, will do nothing about that, either.

While synthetic CDOs with a range of tranches have yet to stage a comeback, some banks have been striking customised “single tranche” deals with investors.

“Generally, it is hard to be very precise about exactly what is going on in terms of synthetic deals because banks are extremely nervous about talking openly about it,” said Mark Hale, chief investment officer of Prytania Investment Advisors.

Don’t know why the banks should be nervous. The government won’t punish them. Perhaps the nervousness comes from not wanting customers to learn the details of the swindle.

Bottom line: When criminal activity goes unpunished, it will continue, growing ever worse until it IS punished.

That goes for criminal bankers and criminal politicians accepting bribes.

The Republicans are clever enough to know they lose elections because they alienate the young, the poor, the middle, the gay, the Latin, the black and the women, essentially leaving the right-wing to bitter, old, white, male bigots (who claim to love God) as their base.

So one might believe these clever, bitter, old, white, male bigots would at least pretend they have changed. But no-o-o-o-o-o-o. They can’t bring themselves to keep from stepping on their tongues, and displaying their underlying ignorance and bigotry.

Republican, Tea Party conservative Senator Todd Akin famously said “It seems to me, from what I understand from doctors, (pregnancy from rape is) really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something: I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be of the rapist, and not attacking the child.”

That incredibly stupid comment — which is in line with right-wing thinking — cost him his Senate seat, tossed out by angry women. Republican lesson learned?

Um, not quite.

Republican, Tea Party conservative Senator Richard Mourdock famously said, “I just struggled with it myself for a long time but I came to realize life is that gift from God that I think even if life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.”

That incredibly stupid comment (after a long struggle of thought) — which is in line with right-wing thinking — cost him his Senate seat, tossed out by angry women. Republican lesson learned?

Um, not quite.

We now have Republican, Tea Party conservative Representative Trent Franks:

Republican Argues The Incidence Of Pregnancy From Rape Is ‘Very Low’
June 12th, 2013, Jason Sattler

Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) argued Wednesday that the number of women who get pregnant due to rape is “very low.”

“Before, when my friends on the left side of the aisle here tried to make rape and incest the subject — because, you know, the incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are [sic] very low”

Yikes! Clearly, this idiocy is a tenet of right wing, Christian dogma — something they all know for sure, and so deeply is this false conviction held, they simply cannot help themselves from repeating it.

Perhaps they hope if they keep repeating it, but a bit differently — “legitimate rape,” “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” “gift from God,” “something that God intended,” “the incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low” — that somehow the lie magically will become the truth, and that women magically will come to love them.

Attention: Old, right-wing, male, God-loving but female-hating bigots. Being stupid is not a sure path to election. O.K.,, being stupid may help if you live in a stupid, right-wing, God-loving but female-hating district, though even so, there is limit to how far stupidity will take you.

(Yes, three dozen useless votes against Obamacare is equally right-wing stupid, but they won’t cost you as many voters.)

Remember this: Rape is not legitimate. God doesn’t endorse rape. And pregnancy from rape is no less frequent than pregnancy from consensual sex.

Keep repeating it to yourself until you understand it.

If ever.

The vast majority of federal deficit spending benefits the middle- and lower-income groups far more than it benefits the rich. So deficit reduction increases the gap between the rich and the rest.

The gap is what makes the rich rich. If there were no gap, no one would be rich, and the wider the gap, the richer the rich are.

Last month we published How to bribe the President, in 3 easy steps. It told how the upper 1% income group has bribed President Obama (via campaign contributions and promises of lucrative employment later) to widen the gap. Call this the “Clinton syndrome.”

President Clinton created massive deficit reduction, which led to a recession, and the grateful super-rich give him a big library in Little Rock, Arkansas, plus opportunities to make millions of dollars — opportunities he eagerly embraced.

Bill Clinton’s $106M speech circuit windfall
Clinton had most active, profitable year on lecture circuit in 2012
By Robert Yoon CNN Political Research Director

As former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton embarks on her new career as a paid speaker, she joins a lucrative family business that already has earned her husband more than $100 million since leaving office in 2001.

Like President Clinton, President Obama has a back-scratching relationship with the rich. To widen the gap, he gives them an increase in FICA (the most regressive tax in U.S. history) and his “Grand Bargain,” a toxic mixture of tax “broadening” (i.e. forcing the lower income groups to pay more) and cuts to social services.

He also gives them cushy jobs:

Washington Post
Obama appoints big money fundraisers to diplomatic posts

Three fundraisers who helped to raise millions for President Obama’s reelection were appointed to coveted diplomatic posts by the president Friday.

Rufus Gifford, who was Mr. Obama’s chief fundraiser in 2012, was appointed ambassador to Denmark.

John B. Emerson, who was cochair of the Democratic National Committe’s southern California finance committee, was nominated by Mr. Obama to become ambassador to Germany.

And HBO executive James Costos was nominated to become U.S. ambassador to Spain.

Mr. Emerson was a top fundraiser for Mr. Obama in 2012 who helped to organize events that raised more than $4 million from entertainment industry celebrities such as George Clooney.

Mr. Costos and Mr. Smith raised well over $500,000 from other donors for Mr. Obama’s reelection.

One might argue that these three men were the best possible choices for ambassadorships to such luxurious posts as Denmark, Germany and Spain.

Or, one might argue that Denmark, Germany and Spain aren’t very important, from the standpoint of ambassadorships, so it wouldn’t matter if inexperienced dolts were given those yearned-for jobs.

Or, one might argue that this is just part of the “You take care of me and I’ll take care of you” bribery that passes for honest decision-making in Washington.

While the inexperienced rich fundraisers get golden ambassadorships in Denmark, Germany and Spain, the experienced, talented career diplomats get ambassadorships in the like of Benghazi, Libya. Rather than enjoying celebrity hobnob parties, they do actual work, while risking death every day.

If you wonder why the middle- and lower-classes are being crushed, while the upper classes ride the gravy train —
If you wonder why unemployment remains stubbornly high, while a Monetarily Sovereign government that can afford anything fires thousands of middle-class employees —
If you wonder why no rich, thieving banker has gone to jail —
If you wonder why a President who pretends to love the underdog, gives all his loving to the “overdogs” —
The answer is straightforward: President Obama has been, and will continue to be, bribed.

It is not economic ignorance that has President Obama pushing austerity. He knows exactly what he is doing.

He knows takes care of the rich now, and widens the gap, the rich will take care of him, his wife and his daughters, later. It’s the Chicago way. It’s the Washington way.

When he arises each morning, he asks himself, “Can we Obamas make as much as the Clintons?”

“Yes, we can.”
