I always am impressed with how religion teaches people to love their fellow man, and how Christians love to quote Christ and Jews love to quote God. For instance, consider the “religious” right wing in America:

Santorum stands with Texas pro-lifers

Former U.S. senator and 2012 GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum appeared in Austin, Texas on Thursday in support of Senate Bill 1, the controversial set of abortion restrictions famously filibustered by State Senator Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth) last month.

“What they’re doing here today is simply human decency. Human decency for the little child in the womb,” said Santorum after visiting the Senate floor to encourage lawmakers to vote for the bill.

Santorum opposes abortions in all cases and once suggested that rape victims who become pregnant should “make the best out of a bad situation.”

He says human decency is what it all is about. Human decency for the microscopic zygote in the womb, that is. Human decency for the invisible blastocyst. Human decency for the 1 inch embroyo.

But, no human decency for the unwanted, unaffordable, malnourished, abused child, who will live in the streets and commit the crimes. The decent upper classes demand to own guns, so they can kill these child criminals if attacked.

And, no human decency available for the woman who has been raped. No human decency for the young, impoverished woman, who became pregnant because the “religious” right denied her sex education in school, and denied her pregnancy prevention devices.

The “religious right” wants her to produce more needy, impoverished, starving children for them to rule and despise.

Food stamps not going anywhere soon, despite dire warnings on House floor

The lack of congressional action on food stamps could keep the $80 billion-a-year program untouched by any cuts.

That headline is supposed to lull us into believing food stamps for the poor will not be cut.

Some Republicans have said there is rampant fraud in the program and benefits are going to some people who aren’t eligible. Newt Gingrich said that people could use food stamps for anything, including trips to Hawaii. In fact, food stamps can only be used for food purchases at retail outlets. And Agriculture Department officials have cracked down on fraud in recent years.

The “religious” right believes Newt’s non-existent poor-people, nickle-and-dime fraud, and feels it’s outrageous. Is real, trillion dollar fraud by rich bankers equally outrageous. Apparently not.

House Republicans have made many different proposals that would radically overhaul food stamps — cracking down on eligibility, increasing work requirements or adding an expiration date to the program.

And after quickly moving the farm-only bill to the floor and rallying most of his caucus to vote for it, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., said Republicans would “act with dispatch” to get a separate food stamp bill to the floor.

The farm-only bill has the backing of the rich agriculture corporations. Not so for food stamps. They are for poor people, so the “religious” right wants to crack down on eligibility, increase work requirements and add an expiration date — just on poor-people benefits, not on rich ag businesses.

There is no consensus on how much the program should be cut or changed, and more moderate Republicans would likely balk at the bigger changes sought by conservatives.

There is no talk about easing eligibility or work requirements. The “religious” is sure that poor people are sloths, lying about in their squalid apartments, living on the dole, so they must be cracked down upon — for their own good. (By contrast, the upper .1% work hard digging ditches, collecting garbage, serving tables and otherwise sweating under cruel taskmasters — so they should be given every benefit.)

The only question is not whether a greater burden will be put on the poor, but only how much greater that burden will become. Consider the “religious” right to be an example of institutionalized cruelty and selfishness — exactly what Jesus Christ preached. Right?

If SNAP is not protected in the farm bill, or if future farm bills don’t pass, Republicans could eventually find other ways to cut SNAP — including in the annual appropriations bills that actually fund the food stamps.

For Rick Santorum and the rest of the “religious” right, it is sufficient to claim to love Jesus, so long as he isn’t required to do anything Jesus preached.

Cruelty to the poor? We religious people do it for their own good.
Poverty? The poor deserve it for being lazy.
Women? They don’t know what’s best for them. We do.
Teen girls? They should not get pregnant, but we refuse to allow them birth control.
Poor children? They have to learn to cope with reality.
Poor crime? It’s their fault for coping with reality.
Rich crime? What rich crime? The rich have earned protection from the law.
Microscopic zygotes? Though you can’t see them with the naked eye, they are far more precious than children, teen girls, women and hungry poor people.

Rep. James McGovern, D-Mass., said on the floor, referring to food stamps in the farm bill. “All of a sudden this has become a partisan issue, and the target, so that you can try to balance the budget, has been placed right on the programs like SNAP.”

Rick Santorum, one of my favorite religious hypocrites, once said, “I thank God that America still has one party that reaches out their hands in love to lift up all of God’s children – born and unborn . . .”

And which party is that, Rick? The one that reaches out its palms to the rich and reaches out its fists to the poor?

It is true that today, we have two right-wing parties. Obama himself is far right of Ronald Reagan, and like all politicians, is owned by the upper .1%. Clearly, he is a traitor to the liberal movement and a traitor to the poor. His determination to cut Social Security and other federal benefit programs, demonstrates a surprising (to many) lack of morals.

But, the “religious right” are positively fascist, the craziest, meanest group of politicians I’ve seen during my long life. Santorum, Cain, Romney, Bachmann, Palin, Paul, Gingrich — have you encountered more nuts in one package? And don’t even ask me about Scalia, Thomas, Alito, not to forget Joe Arpaio .

Given that sad reality, why the heck would anyone having less than say, $10 million in assets, vote Republican? In fact, why would any honestly religious person vote Republican, no matter how much money they have?

It’s one of life’s great mysteries.

If the quality of our Presidential candidates foretells America’s future, we are in terrible trouble. Take, for example, Marco Rubio:

Marco Rubio: No debt limit increase until Congress adopts plan to balance budget in 10 years

Sen. Marco Rubio . . . said that Congress should not agree to raise the nation’s borrowing limit “a single cent” until lawmakers pass and Mr. Obama signs off on a spending plan that shows how the federal budget will be balanced in 10 years.

As Rubio knows, the money already has been spent. His proposal is akin to running up a credit card debt, then refusing to pay the bill. Balancing the federal budget will remove trillions from the economy, guaranteeing a recession if we are lucky and a depression if we are not. It is another notorious “sequester” — on steroids.

(Rubio said,) “They will say, ‘Well you are going to risk default.’ The $17 trillion debt is a risk of default. The lack of any plan to fix it is the risk of default — and not a statutory default, a real default.”

Rubio’s plan is not “a risk of default.” It is an actual default. Meanwhile, the government could eliminate the so-called $17 trillion debt tomorrow, simply by transferring debt owners’ own dollars from their T-security accounts to their checking accounts. Rubio pretends not to understand that and he doesn’t want you to understand it.

Mr. Rubio said the administration has had the wrong priorities. Instead of focusing on reducing the debt, reshaping the tax code and tapping into the nation’s domestic energy industry, Mr. Obama has pushed for tighter gun control laws, same-sex marriage and a climate change agenda.

Mr. Rubio said that the Republicans should move in an opposite direction by pursuing a pro-growth agenda that takes advantage of the nation’s oil, coal and natural gas resources, reforms the tax code and reduces government regulations to encourage more investment and risk in America.

Translation: “Instead of causing a recession by reducing the money supply, making the middle-classes pay more taxes while the rich pay less, and increasing pollution and global warming, Mr. Obama has pushed for reducing gun violence, less bigotry against gays and saving the environment for our children.”

Mr. Rubio said that the Republicans should move in an opposite direction by pursuing a negative-growth agenda that burns more of the nation’s oil, coal and natural gas resources, reforms the tax code to benefit the rich and reduces government regulations to encourage more stealing by crooked bankers in America.

“We have to convince the majority of our fellow Americans that the road we are on today will lead us to decline,” Mr. Rubio said. “That we don’t need a government that picks winners and losers. What we need are leaders that believe we can all be winners.”

Translation: “We have to convince the majority of our fellow Americans that cutting the money supply somehow will grow the economy,” Mr. Rubio said. We don’t need a government that helps the poor and takes from to the criminal rich. What we need are leaders that believe we can fool the people into giving the upper .1% more power.”

Let’s be honest here. Marco Rubio has three “qualifications” for the Presidency:

1. He’s a nice-looking young fellow.
2. He’s Latino, a cynical, conservative attempt at fooling other Latino’s into believing the right wing gives a damn about them.
3. He backs every right wing initiative to crush the poor and middle-classes and to pay off the rich for their support.

Like the almost-but-not-quite namesake cube, he can be twisted and turned every rich way, to come up with any crazy design. He is 100% flexible, according to the wishes of the upper .1% income group.

And this guy wants to be President? Sadly, the right wing hasn’t changed from its Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain blend of incompetence and craziness.

The right wing “solutions” simply do not work, will not work, can not work. It’s time for a new plan.

1. A growing economy requires a growing supply of dollars (GDP=Federal Spending + Non-federal Spending + Net Exports)
2. All deficit spending grows the supply of dollars
3. The limit to federal deficit spending is an inflation that cannot be cured with interest rate control.
4. The limit to non-federal deficit spending is the ability to borrow.

THE RECESSION CLOCK

Recessions begin an average of 2 years after the blue line first dips below zero. A common phenomenon is for the line briefly to dip below zero, then rise above zero, before falling dramatically below zero. There was a brief dip below zero in 2015, followed by another dip – the familiar pre-recession pattern.
Recessions are cured by a rising red line.

Monetary Sovereignty

As the federal deficit growth lines drop, we approach recession, which will be cured only when the growth lines rise. Increasing federal deficit growth (aka “stimulus”) is necessary for long-term economic growth.

Now the fight is about gay marriage, which the Supreme Court has almost, but not quite, ruled on.

Proponents of gay marriage talk about love and morality and fairness and children. For instance:

–If two people are in love and wish to marry, why should they be denied this happiness? Whom does it hurt?
–The federal government has no laws against two people of the same sex living together nor even of having sex together, so why should they be denied marriage?
–Why should gays and lesbians be treated as second class citizens, by not receiving the same legal benefits and protections that straights receive?
–What evidence exists that children raised by a gay couple have an inferior childhood, by any measure, to children raised in a straight marriage?

Opponents of gay marriage talk about the bible, tradition and promiscuity. For instance:

–God and the bible oppose gay marriage
–Gays are more promiscuous than straights
–Gays choose to be different when they should choose to be normal
–Marriage is for procration
–Gay marriage can lead to polygamy, bestiality and the spread of homosexuality to children and susceptible adults.

In short, those opposed are motivated by the “yuck factor.” Gay marriage feels wrong, so it must be wrong. Those favoring gay marriage are motivated by fairness, and “we’re not hurting anyone.”

But, there is one point that seems to be overlooked in all the endless hyperbole: Why does marriage endow couples with financial benefits?

For example, here are some of those marriage benefits, summarized:

Federal Marriage Benefits Denied to Same-Sex Couples
Whether married or not, gay and lesbian same-sex couples are denied many federal benefits that are available to heterosexual married couples.

Social Security Benefits
Spousal survivor benefit. A surviving spouse may be entitled to receive retirement benefits based on the deceased spouse’s earning record.
Spousal retirement benefit. A person whose calculated benefit is lower may take half of his spouse’s higher benefit.
Lump-sum death benefit. A surviving spouse gets $255 from the federal government to help pay for funeral arrangements.

Tax Benefits
Filing joint income tax returns with the IRS offers advantages over separate returns.
Creating a “family partnership.” Married couples can divide business income among family members, resulting in big tax savings.

Estate Tax and Estate Planning Benefits
Estate and gift tax exemption. Federal law exempts a certain amount of money from federal estate and gift taxes on property left to a surviving spouse.
Estate Tax “Portability.” Married couples can combine their personal estate tax exemptions.
Heterosexual married couples can create life estate trusts, including QTIP trusts and QDOT trusts.
The heterosexual spouses of deceased veterans are entitled to a myriad of benefits, including health care, death pensions, educational assistance, home loan guarantees, vocational training, and bereavement counseling.

Federal Employment Benefits
Many of the employment benefits that the federal government provides to its employees and their families are tied to marriage status: Health insurance for spouses, and wages, worker’s compensation, health insurance, and retirement plan benefits for the surviving spouse of a deceased federal worker, the right to use sick time to care for a spouse or a child, the right to add a partner to a long-term care insurance program, and the right to use medical facilities at posts abroad, be evacuated for medical reasons from posts abroad, and be included in family size for housing allocations.

Immigration Benefits
A non-U.S. citizen may obtain legal residency, and later citizenship status, when married to a U.S. citizen.

So the question is: Why all these government benefits of marriage? Or more accurately: Why does the government discriminate against single people?

That is the real question, never asked, much less answered.

(And why are single people not as angry as gays at this discrimination?)

Bin Laden Raid Records Shielded From Public In Secret Move

Adm. William McRaven, the nation’s top special operations commander ordered military files about the Navy SEAL raid on Osama bin Laden’s hideout to be purged from Defense Department computers and sent to the CIA, where they could be more easily shielded from ever being made public.

CIA agency spokesman Preston Golson said it is “absolutely false” that records were moved to the CIA to avoid the legal requirements of the Freedom of Information Act.

I believe Golson. He is government. Government is truthful. Government is truthful. Government is truthful.

Secretly moving the records allowed the Pentagon to tell The Associated Press that it couldn’t find any documents inside the Defense Department that AP had requested more than two years ago, and could represent a new strategy for the U.S. government to shield even its most sensitive activities from public scrutiny.

Another secrecy strategy? How many strategies to keep us in the dark, does this government need? (I’d give you the answer, but it’s a secret.)

The records transfer was part of an effort by McRaven to protect the names of the personnel involved in the raid.

Someone please send a black marker to the government, so they could redact the names. Apparently sequester has cut their black marker supply.

Under federal rules, transferring government records from one executive agency to another must be approved in writing by the National Archives and Records Administration. The Archives was not aware of any request from the U.S. Special Operations Command to transfer its records to the CIA, spokeswoman Miriam Kleiman said.

Hey, rules are for fools. We don’t follow rules. We are the government. Trust us.

The Federal Records Act would not permit agencies “to purge records just on a whim,” said Dan Metcalfe, who oversaw the U.S. government’s compliance with the Freedom of Information Act. “I don’t think there’s an exception allowing an agency to say, ‘Well, we didn’t destroy it. We just deleted it here after transmitting it over there.’ High-level officials ought to know better.”

See, they didn’t intentionally hide this stuff from the public. It was sort of an accident, and those naughty boys “ought to know better.”

In the days after bin Laden’s death, the White House falsely said bin Laden was armed and even firing at the SEALs, misidentified which of bin Laden’s sons was killed and incorrectly said bin Laden’s wife died in the shootout.

The Defense Department told the AP in March 2012 it could not locate any photographs or video taken during the raid or showing bin Laden’s body, could not find any images of bin Laden’s body on the USS Carl Vinson, could not find any death certificate, autopsy report or results of DNA identification tests for bin Laden, or any pre-raid materials discussing how the government planned to dispose of bin Laden’s body if he were killed.

Other than that, the government has been completely open and honest with us — oh, with maybe a couple little white lies, for our own good.

President Obama has pledged to make his administration the most transparent in U.S. history.

Actually, it is becoming transparent. We all are beginning to see right through Obama and his pledges.
