Trump renaming reaches new depths

Having put Trump’s name on every street, building, and concert hall, the MAGAs have become desperate to find new ways to suck up to their hero. They have requested design suggestions for airport bathrooms. Here are a few of the suggestions, with more pouring in each day:

“THE PALATIAL”

“THE SIMPLE AND TASTEFUL”

“THE SPLASHY”

“THE BANKER”

“THE BIG BROTHER”

“THE RIGHT BEHIND” SITTER

“THE DOWN HERE” SITTER

WAIT. HOW DID THIS GET IN THERE?

  1. The Royal Flush of architectural a-commode-asions! Totally appropriate to provide blessings, gifts and reflections of the honored-one’s moral substance.

  2. The latest instance is Trump’s denial of funding of the NY-NJ Gateway train tunnel project – the largest infrastructure project in the U.S. now – unless Senator Schumer agrees to rename Penn Station after him, when the Feds rebuild/modify it (which, separately, they want to now charge NY for).

Let’s ignore for the moment that Schumer doesn’t control the name, the rebuilding, or the decisions of the Governor. Let’s even ignore the fact that Trump shut off the funding in October over Schumer’s understandable refusal to pass the horrible budget then, not over renaming rights.

And finally, that Trump’s Transportation Secretary says DEI programs are the reason for the defunding (he didn’t get the memo?).

Closing the Gateway project would take 100s of millions of dollars over a year, to refill the partly dug holes, remove the boring equipment and seal everything up again.

And by the mid-2030s, the existing 100+ year old 2 tube tunnel would have to be shut down for hurricane Sandy repairs, slowing the trains to 1/4 capacity. It would cost 1,000 jobs immediately, and up to 90,000 region wide over the next decade (many of whom voted for Trump).

It’s the single most idiotic, dangerous, short-sighted infrastructure cancellation in U.S. history, being fought by two new lawsuits this week (why didn’t they sue in October??).

And now, Trump says it could be reversed just by a renaming choice. I say do it. Some future president will have a list of things to change in the great future Unnaming.
