Mitchell’s laws: The more budgets are cut and taxes increased, the weaker an economy becomes. To survive long term, a monetarily non-sovereign government must have a positive balance of payments. Austerity = poverty and leads to civil disorder. Those, who do not understand the differences between Monetary Sovereignty and monetary non-sovereignty, do not understand economics.

In the coming Presidential election, you will have a choice of three candidates, Barack Obama, Flip Romney or Flop Romney. Here are some positions held by Flip Romney and the opposing positions held by Flop Romney. Thanks to Senator John McCain for digging most of these up:

FLIP: “I think the minimum wage ought to keep pace with inflation.”
FLOP: “There”s no question raising the minimum wage excessively causes a loss of jobs.”

FLIP: “I will work and fight for stem cell research.”
FLOP: “In the end, I became persuaded that the stem-cell debate was grounded in a false premise.”

FLIP: “I respect and will protect a woman”s right to choose.”
FLOP: “I never really called myself pro-choice.”

FLIP: “I like mandates. The mandates work.”
FLOP: “I think it”s unconstitutional on the 10th Amendment front.”

FLIP: “I’m not trying to return to Reagan-Bush.”
FLOP: “Ronald Reagan is… my hero.”

FLIP: “Illegal immigrants should have a chance to obtain citizenship.”
FLOP: “Secure the border, employment verification and no special pathway to citizenship.”
FLIP: ““Mitt Romney believes that young illegal immigrants who were brought to the United States as children should have the chance to become permanent residents, and eventually citizens, by serving honorably in the United States military,” a Romney campaign release states.

FLIP: Romney refused to take a position on Bush’s massive, 10-year tax cut plan.
FLOP: “I supported them.” (The Bush tax cuts)

FLIP:Romney said he will take stands that put him at odds with some traditional ultra- conservative groups, and cited his support for the assault rifle ban and the Brady gun control law. “That’s not going to make me the hero of the NRA. I don”t line up with a lot of special interest groups.”
FLOP: “I’m after the NRA”s endorsement. I”m not sure they”ll give it to me. I hope they will. I also joined because if I’m going to ask for their endorsement, they’re going to ask for mine.”

FLIP: “I have a gun of my own. I go hunting myself.”
FLOP: Asked by reporters at the gun show Friday whether he personally owned a gun, Romney said he did not. He said one of his sons, Josh, keeps two guns at the family vacation home in Utah.

FLIP: “I think the global warming debate is now pretty much over . . .”
FLOP: “I have to tell you with regards to global warming that that’s something, which, you’re right, the scientists haven’t entirely resolved . . .”

FLIP: When a 2002 Constitutional Amendment was proposed to ban same-sex marriage, Romney opposed it
FLOP: Romney will join petition backers in a State House press event today to urge the Legislature to pass the Protection of Marriage Amendment

FLIP: Gov. Mitt Romney (R) signed a bill Wednesday requiring all Massachusetts residents to purchase health insurance.
FLOP: Romney … is much more likely to present his state’s universal coverage law as not a model to copy but an example for other states to learn from. He’s now a critic of his own biggest achievement.

FLIP: Mitt Romney broke with GOP tradition and refused to sign the [Americans for Tax Reform] pledge. Romney’s Gubernatorial Campaign Spokesman, Eric Fehrnstrom, Dismissed Such Pledges At The Time As “Government By Gimmickry.”
FLOP: Almost five years after he refused to sign a ‘no new taxes’ pledge during his campaign for governor, Mitt Romney announced … that he had done just that, as his campaign for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination began in earnest.

Between Flip and Flop, I support Flip . . . or actually it’s Flop. I think half of right wingers should vote for Flip and the other half for Flop. Or maybe the other way around. And don’t quote me, because I may change my mind, depending on what you think.

While all politicians change positions for convenience, Flip and Flop seem to have cornered the world record. I therefore have created the Mitt Romney Flip Flop award, of which he will be the first recipient — five copies for extreme wishy-washy excellence.

    Probably too early to ask. Wait until November, when he may be finished flipping and flopping on this.

    Romney said at the 2011 Republican debate at the Reagan Library that he would secure the border with a 2,600 mile fence and hire “enough agents to secure that fence.” It’s unclear what Romney hopes this will accomplish, considering that he admitted just a sentence later that immigrants “can always get a ladder to go over the fence.”

    In the buildup to the Iowa caucus, Romney promised that he would veto the DREAM Act, leading DNC Senior Adviser for Hispanic Affairs Juan Sepulveda to declare that “Mitt Romney’s far-right views on immigration would make him the most extreme presidential nominee in recent memory.”

    At the January 23rd Florida presidential debate, Romney suggested that, having suffered all of the indignities of life under his administration, illegal immigrants would become so discouraged that they would voluntarily “self-deport.” The plan seems so ridiculous on its face that it drew laughter from the audience.

    Romney said at a February debate that “I think you see a model in Arizona,. Russell Pearce — the author of Arizona’s Senate Bill 1070, the country’s harshest anti-immigrant law — has said that Romney’s immigration policy is “identical to mine.”

    As this is written, the Republican National Committee’s Hispanic Outreach Director, told reporters, “He’s still deciding what his position on immigration is.”

    Still deciding??? Yikes.

      While I think that the money spent on a border fence could be allocated in a more economically efficient and beneficial manner, do you think that such a project would be effective fiscal policy, anyways? It would probably represent a significant portion of our aggregate demand gap and put lots of people back to work, no? An incredible amount of physical resources and labor hours would be required to build something like this.

      For the record, I am not in favor of building the fence. However, I am for tricking conservatives/tea/republicans to back much needed federal stimulus, and this may be one of the best methods available.

      1. Do you envision the fence being built by hundreds upon hundreds of laborers and stone masons, sort of like Hadrian’s wall, working on it. Sorry Jon, but using modern construction methods the fence could be constructed with a minimal labor force and heavy equipment. Sorry for the rain.

    Lets see:number 1) “nor grow without money growth” is translated into bloated We The Elite People of culture of corruption in Washington DC excessive taxation (and) zilch representation, i.e., money growth = government growth.
    number 2) so, individuals should adhere to time honored We The Elite People of culture of corruption in Washington DC and continue to “spend, spend, spend” and not balance family spending (in other owrds, applying leaches to cure anemia)?
    number 3) How do Federal deficits,i.e, ever increasing spending by We The Elite People of culture of corruption in Washington DC, less Net Imports (purchasing abroad) equals Net Private Savings if it is We The People being taxed out of existence to support “Federal Deficits?” Government is still bloated.
    Lastly, number 4) How in the world is Federal Spending ever a “product?” When did any government entity in any part of the world ever, ever produce a profit? “Product” implies taking something akin to raw material, transforming it in a “productive manner (capital+real estate+equity)” and offering the result (product) for something more than its bottom line, ergo called a “profit.” Government cannot, will not and never, ever has offered a Product for profit.
    What this is a treatise on Keynes. Since 2008 has been roundly debunked as “gadfly economics” just like John Kenneth Galbraiths “countervailing forces” meme. Now, apologists for Obamanomics??? Titanic syndrome.God Bless America. Amen

Sir, though I do not agree at all times with Mr. Mitchell’s opinions, I must state if the primary tenents of his concepts with regards to Monetary Sovereignty were put into practice the result would be a degree of prosperity for American society unprecedented in our Nations history. Your failure to disassociate non-monetarily sovereign entities from monetarily sovereign ones does not allow you to make these connections. Your anti-government sentiments corrupt your ability to comprehend the value of the tenents put forth by Mr. Mitchell. Read the work with an open mind, if you possess the capabilities to do so and you might just see the light.

    1) Not sure why you think, “No nation can tax itself into prosperity” translates into “excessive taxation.”

    2) Learn why Monetary Sovereignty is different from personal finance.

    3) Learn why in a Monetarily Sovereign government, taxes do not support spending.

    4) The formula is exactly how GDP is computed. Do you have a better formula?

  9. “The Supreme Court has the final word, and their final word is that Obamacare is a tax,” Romney told CBS. “So it’s a tax. They decided it was constitutional. So it is a tax, and it’s constitutional.”

    When correspondent Jan Craw-ford asked whether his Massachusetts law also is a tax, he said: “The chief justice in his opinion made it very clear that at the state level, states have the power to put in place mandates. They don’t need to require them to be called ‘taxes’ in order for them to be constitutional. And as a result, Massachusetts’ mandate was a mandate, was a penalty, was described that way by the legislature and by me, and so it stays as it was.”

    So it’s not a tax in Massachusetts, but it is a tax in the U.S. Well, that clears it up.

    Romney has no core. He will say whatever you want to hear, then say the opposite to someone who believes otherwise. He is the Zelig of American politics.
